While you were probably at work or watching the Army-Navy game this weekend, members of Congress passed a bill that will effectively end the federal government’s prohibition on medical marijuana. The provision comes quietly placed within the 1,603 page, $1.1 trillion federal spending bill. Under this new bill, federal agencies such as the Department of Justice and the DEA will be prohibited from raiding medicinal retail operations.
As of today, 32 US states and the District of Columbia have legalized the medicinal use of cannabis. This bill is a huge victory for MMJ advocates and drug policy activists who have been fighting to end the fed’s oppressive stance on Mary Jane.

President Obama signed the $1.1 trillion spending bill into law Tuesday night, legislation also included a bipartisan compromise that avoids a government shutdown and provides additional funding for military action against the Islamic State and to combat the spread of Ebola in western Africa.
