Kevin Love Opts into Free Agency

Cleveland Cavaliers power forward Kevin Love opted out of his contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers Wednesday in order to return to free agency this summer league sources told ESPN.

Love was in the final year of his contract, which was worth $16.7 million dollars. The Cavaliers plan on resigning the former All-Star forward and Love has made it clear he wants to stay.

“Yes,” Love said when asked if he wants to stay on June 5, “I want to win.”

Love missed most of the Cavaliers’ playoff run due to a dislocated his shoulder he suffered against the Boston Celtics in the first round of the playoffs.

The Cavaliers traded its first round pick Andrew Wiggins and its 2016 first-round pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves in order to acquire Love during the 2014 summer. In Love’s first season with the Cavaliers he averaged 16.4 points and 9.7 rebounds.
