Tom Holland

Actor, Tom Holland (The Impossible) was one of three British actors rumored to be competing for the role.

The first standalone film from the new Spider-Man franchise, directed by Jon Watts, will be released worldwide on 28 July 2017.

Holland will now be the third actor to star as Peter Parker on the big screen in the past thirteen years. In what will be the Spider-Man film in the past fifteen years. Tobey Maguire held the role in Sam Raimi ‘s 2002-07 franchise and Andrew Garfield recently portrayed the webhead in Sony Pictures’ The Amazing Spider-Man 1&2.

There has been much speculation of whether or not Marvel would utilize Parker’s Spider-Man or another variation of the hero, (such as Miles Morales) seeing as they have just recently finished their Spider-Verse storyline, which featured every incarnation of the masked menace to date. But all of that talk was laid to rest when Sony and Marvel both revealed that it would indeed be Peter Parker to join the MCU.

In a leaked licensing agreement between Marvel contractual obligations were laid out for the character that have caused a bit of an uproar, including that he could not be gay or black.

But I think now we can all just be happy that spidey is joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
